ABOUT US
The Movement Gallery is a space created for all to express their artistry and creativity through dance and movement, offering a variety of classes for all ages.
Our inclusive dance school is a welcoming space where everyone can move, create, and belong. We celebrate dancers of all abilities, backgrounds, and experiences, offering supportive instruction that adapts to individual needs.
We firmly believe that through dance, students build confidence, coordination, and self-expression while developing strength, creativity, and social connection. Inclusive dance encourages empathy, teamwork, and joy, helping ensure that every dancer grows not just in skill but in self-belief and community.
You can find us at the Altona Uniting Church Hall, where we welcome all.
Meet the Director
Cara’s great passion for dance spans three decades, beginning with her first performance on stage at two and a half years old. Training as both a performer and a teacher, she spent her early years under the guidance of her family at The Jansen Dance Academy. Here, she enjoyed her training in a number of disciplines under her mother, Sally's direction.
Cara’s journey in dance began with a strong foundation, as she trained, performed, and underwent examinations for both the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) and the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance. Both curricula remain internationally recognised for their rigorous programs that help shape the whole dancer, empowering them not only with the skills required for success but also with a deep appreciation of anatomical and musical knowledge.
Cara commenced her professional career at 14 and has made many appearances on stage and television. She maintains many industry connections and has performed alongside artists such as Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, Cassie Davis, Brian McFadden, David Campbell, and The Black Eyed Peas. She has performed across Australia and throughout the U.S. Cara has also trained alongside industry leaders in the heart of the entertainment world, including some of the top choreographers in Los Angeles. During this time, she also specialised in commercial training, bringing her expertise in heels and television back to Australia. Since her return to Australia, Cara has choreographed music videos and live performances for numerous national artists and events.
In addition to her 21 years as a dance educator, Cara has further trained in inclusive practices, having first enjoyed the challenge and reward of working in children’s education, particularly in specialist settings. Cara has maintained great energy and interest in tailoring programs to her students' interests and talents, including those with additional learning needs, to ensure they thrive in her care. In recent years, Cara has also transitioned to working in the adult learning space, having obtained Certificates and training in Disability. She is also a fully qualified personal trainer, which helps inform her work with individuals of all abilities.
Cara has always encouraged young dancers to strive for versatility and to express themselves through various movement styles. She is excited to open The Movement Gallery to performers of all ages and provide a space where all are welcome. She takes great pride in being one of the first dance communities in Melbourne to ensure all dancers can achieve their best in a truly inclusive and accommodating environment.
